“It’s a little bit surreal. The history that Unicorn have got with champions. They have been great at getting things organised for me.”

DARREN Beveridge admits he has a champions pedigree to spur him on to oche glory.

The Dalkeith-based darter makes his debut on the ProTour this week after grabbing a last-gasp card at Q-School last month.

‘Ice Cold’ Beveridge, 31, is originally from Musselburgh, also the birthplace of Gary Anderson and has now signed for Unicorn, the world-renowned home of arrows champions.

Now the aeroplane parts quality inspector can’t wait for take-off now he’s in the big time.

He said: “It was great I finally managed to get over the line. I’ve been trying for years to get one and missed out a couple of times on leg difference. For it to go my way for a change was really good.

“I’ve got a lot of stuff to juggle at the moment but my work have been really good with me and letting me change my contracted hours.

“It’s been a bit of a whirlwind and blur this past month with getting a tour card and signing with Unicorn.

“It’s a little bit surreal. The history that Unicorn have got with champions. They have been great at getting things organised for me.”

Beveridge is also with the same Dunvegan Darts management with Ando and is currently deciding on his potential walk-on tune for the UK Open, which will be his first TV event as a tour card holder.

He added: “I had to put darts to the back of my mind for a while. Now that I’ve got my card again I’m in a good place.

“This is now a great opportunity and I’m very excited to get started.

“I’m not particularly looking forward to playing anyone. You have to play everyone and beat everyone to succeed, so I’ll just take it a game at a time.

“I’m still unsure about the walk-on just now but there is one I like. It’s a remix of Cold As Ice by Foreigner. I’m still not 100 per cent yet!”
