CAMERON MENZIES admits consistency is the key after a very bright opening to his ProTour year.

The Muirkirk marvel kicked off in quality fashion by qualifying for the German Darts Grand Prix (ET2) in Munich from March 30-April 1.

It was a very productive opening three days of play for Menzies. He relinquished just seven legs in his four matches in the ET2 Qualifier, averaging 102 and 99 in eye-catching wins against George Killington and Danny Lauby respectively.

He admitted: “I’m just trying to pace myself this year. Usually I peak too early and then run out of steam.

“I’ve played not too bad. My standard has been very good. I was a bit rusty after not playing competitively since the World Championship.

“I’m quite happy how the first ProTours went. I’d be even happier if I did that consistently over the year. But it’s a very hard place to play.

“The Euro qualification was vital. This year will be harder to qualify, so it gives you an extra incentive. I think last year I qualified for three and that’s the aim again.

“That obviously boosts up the prize money. One good run in a Euro tour can set up your entire year nicely.”

Menzies, who is back in action in Players Championships 3 and 4 this week, also faced the might of hot prospect Luke Littler in Wigan last week.

He added: “He’s just one of the best in the world. I missed a couple of doubles in the first two legs and the next thing I knew I was five-nil down!

“He’s going to have a few bad days here and there but at the moment he’s only playing one way and that’s pretty good.”
