“You’ve got to ride your luck. I had four match darts against me this weekend and luckily enough, I’ve got my sixth one now.”

MICHAEL SMITH said Nathan Aspinall “just bites your ankles” after narrowly winning the German Darts Grand Prix.

Bully Boy won his first ranking title in Munich since becoming World Champ, beating The Asp 8-5.

Smith produced a solid run to beat Gerwyn Price, Keane Barry and Damon Heta on the way to the title.

He said: “I had to find a game from somewhere and luckily enough that first leg changed the whole match.

“He missed six darts and I stepped in for the double two. I was throwing darts away on the 140 and 180, I was just walking on it but it happens sometimes.

“The lad’s a dog, he just bites at your ankles all the time, he’s there biting at your heels.

“You’ve got to ride your luck. I had four match darts against me this weekend and luckily enough, I’ve got my sixth one now.

“I feel bad for Nathan because he’s not won one of these titles yet. I know how to win these European Tours, and I knew I had to produce the right shots at the key times.

“I think I my brought my A-game twice in five games and now I’m the German Darts Grand Prix champion!”
