Menzies claims maiden PDC title

''I wanted to win this title so much; I’m absolutely buzzing. This means so much to me''

CAMERON MENZIES admitted “nobody can take away” his joy after landing his first PDC ranking title.

The Muirkirk ace beat Stephen Bunting 8-4 to take the Players Championship 29 event in Leicester last night (Wednesday).

Menzies, 35, delivered a stunning day of form to finally end his title quest. He smashed Danny Noppert 7-1 in the semis after getting past James Wade 6-2, Krzysztof Ratajski 6-5, Rob Cross 6-3, Jacques Labre 6-1 and Jose De Sousa 6-3.

The flamboyant star said: “I’ve won a ProTour, and nobody can ever take that away from me.

“I wanted to win this title so much; I’m absolutely buzzing. This means so much to me.

“At one stage I never thought I was good enough to win a ProTour, but I believe right now I’m playing the best darts of my life.

“I’m playing against the best players in the world here, and I feel when I’m on my game, I can match them, and I never thought I’d be able to do that.

“Hopefully this is a stepping stone to winning a major, like Ritchie (Edhouse) and Mike De Decker have done recently.

In a hard-fought final, Bunting missed double 12 for a perfect nine-dart finish but couldn’t catch Menzies after he had zipped into a 3-1 lead.
